When I made it back to my car at the upper Lake Louise parking lot I stopped for a quick lunch before continuing to explore the area. I started hiking down a trail I found that followed a creek weaving through the forest. About halfway down I noticed a path that would take me closer to the creek. As I approached the creek the sun began to peek through the clouds and illuminate one side of the forest. I positioned myself balancing on a rock in the middle of the flowing water to try and capture equal parts of the light and dark, yielding this photograph. I continued on down the trail until I reached the bridge crossing the Bow River. It only then occurred to me that my car was still at the upper lot and I'd have to hike all the way back up. A small sacrifice to create this lasting memory.
