On our last day on the beautiful island of Maui we stopped at Ho'okipa Beach one last time to see the sea turtles sunning themselves on the beach, watch the surfers attack the rolling waves, and explore the shoreline. We climbed down the east side of the cliff face and as we explored the coastline this rock formation caught my eye. I set up just above the water and watched as the waves crashed against the rocks. I took what must have been 100 pictures trying to capture the perfect moment where the waves created the perfect splash to complete the portal like structure. The sci-fi nerd in me imagined this as an old dystopian waygate, lost to the years and broken down from the constant pressures of the ocean. Where did it lead, who put it there, how long has it been there for. A great example of how important imagination is and how it can lead to moments worth photographing.
