After seeing the black sand beaches just North of us on Maui, we made a point of getting to the red sand beaches while we were down in Hana. After a short hike along a narrow and winding coastline we arrived at the Kaihalulu Red Sand Beach. A beautiful little cove of sand that was nothing like I'd ever seen before. Here, we explored around and cautiously swam in the calm pools protected by this jagged reef. Separated by this one wall of rocks, the ocean raged just opposite us. The waves crashed wrathfully against the reef creating massive splashes of water that then flowed gently into the inner pools. An incredible display of the power of the ocean, the resilience of the land, and the beauty of natural formed landscapes.
