Our trip to Maui took us to the South East side of the island to the town of Hana. A drive along the winding coast that lives up to the "I survived the road to Hana" t-shirts. One of the hikes that was a must for us was the Pipiwai Trail, part of the Hana Forest Reserve. This 6 km hike had us climbing up the mountain side, beside steep ravines, over fast moving water and waterfalls, in a lot of mud, and through bamboo forests. This was my first time being in a bamboo forest, an experience that was quite surreal. As we walked along the meandering walkway we tried to remain as silent as possible so that we could hear the gentle swaying and clacking of the bamboo in the breeze. The dense growth of the forest and occasional cloud coverage brought some rain and gave the walk a dark and moody feel. As we walked through this path of silence I captured this image.
